Apple Cider Vinegar can be found in food stores as a single ingredient but is also used in hair products such as shampoos and hair treatments. It is also found in skin toners, deodorants and even household cleaning products.

Bacteria and yeast are added to the apple juice to begin the fermentation process. In the first step of the process sugars are converted to alcohol. In the second step alcohol is converted into vinegar by acetic acid-forming bacteria.

When AVC is made, strands of a “mother” will form in the cider. These are strained out of many products but left in unrefined or unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. The “mother” can also be used to start the production of the next batch of cider.
